About Studio Paesa
Design philosophy
Our design philosophy is rooted in the belief that the most enduring landscapes feel as though they have always belonged. We approach each project as a dialogue between land, architecture, and client—seeking clarity, balance, and restraint in every decision. The result is not imposed form, but a landscape revealed through careful study and thoughtful intervention.
Founder background
The studio is led by a landscape architect with over two decades of experience shaping high-end residential landscapes across the Mid-Atlantic. Licensed in both Virginia and Maryland, his work reflects a deep understanding of the region’s ecology, architecture, and cultural landscape.
As both designer and homeowner in Virginia’s Northern Neck, he brings a personal connection to the land that informs each project. This dual perspective—professional and lived—offers a nuanced sensitivity to the rhythms of waterfront properties, rural estates, and the quiet character that defines the region.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated closely with architects, builders, and discerning clients to realize landscapes of lasting quality. His work is defined by clarity, restraint, and a commitment to craftsmanship—creating environments that feel both intentional and enduring.
Regional expertise
At Studio Paesa, our work is grounded in a deep understanding of the Mid-Atlantic landscape, with particular focus on Virginia’s Northern Neck. This region—defined by its tidal waterways, expansive horizons, and working landscapes—requires a careful and informed approach.
Designing here demands more than aesthetic consideration. It calls for fluency in coastal conditions, soil variability, native plant communities, and the regulatory frameworks that shape waterfront and rural properties. From shoreline resilience and grading to planting strategies that respond to wind, salt, and season, each decision is guided by experience and a respect for the land’s inherent character.
Our familiarity with the Northern Neck extends beyond technical knowledge. It is an understanding of pace, of light across the water, of how a landscape is used throughout the year. This perspective allows us to create environments that feel natural to their setting—composed, enduring, and attuned to the rhythms of the region.
We work closely with local craftsmen, contractors, and consultants, ensuring that each project is executed with precision and continuity from concept through construction. The result is a landscape that is not only well designed, but deeply rooted in place.
